For years and years members of successful music groups have taken the chance of establishing themselves as separate individual artists on the basis of such success and for some it was a chance worth taking - however for other stars the ride to solo stardom has not been so easy to achieve.
So what qualities must an artist possess in order to make it as their own artist? Fl@unt takes a look at examples of music stars who have achieved success and those who have met failure on their solo journey...
BEYONCE - DESTINY'S CHILD
Kelly and Michelle's solo efforts pail in comparison to Beyonce's current solo super stardom. No doubt each singer is exceptionally talented, but Beyonce beats the girls in stage presence and star quality.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - N SYNC
Although JC Chasez, who tried but failed to achieve solo success, is arguably just as good a singer as JT - the effortlessly stylish and natural charisma of JT won him a number of (female) fans in 2002 that remain loyal to this day. He was just the coolest of the bunch.
GWEN STEFANI - NO DOUBT
Although the instrumentalists of No Doubt created a sound unmistakably their own, let's face it, our eyes were always on Gwen. Her voice is also very much her own and so solo success was inevitable.
ROBBIE WILLIAMS - TAKE THAT
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last year, you know that Robbie has recently rejoined the band but for how long? His rebellious streak will soon enough create an itch to go back to solo material we predict...
NICOLE SCHERZINGER - PCD
The opposite effect to Beyonce who rose to success off of being the frontwoman of Destiny's Child, Nicole - whose group success rode off the back of her vocal talents has not been so lucky. A shame, as this woman sure has a powerful voice. Hopefully her new album will fair better than the previous.
OMARION - B2K
Gaining success with his first solo album 'O' back in 2004, Omarion's career looked promising, however since then, he has yet to match the success of his debut despite steady releases of great tunes and music videos.
